VALLEY FORWARD TO HOST PANEL ON UNCERTAINTIES OF CLIMATE CHANGE
PHOENIX (March 3, 2010) – An interactive panel of community leaders and stakeholders will discuss the uncertainties of climate change at Valley Forward’s Board of Directors/General Membership Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 24 at the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix, 340 North 3rd Street.
Panelists include: David Modeer, general manager of the Central Arizona Project; Henry Darwin, deputy director of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality; Gary Yaquinto, president of the Arizona Investment Council and Warren Meyer, proprietor of The Climate Change Skeptic. Grady Gammage, Jr. of Gammage & Burnham, will moderate the program.
The discussion will address the complexities and differing opinions on the impacts of climate change and the affects on our planet, business, industry and personal lifestyle choices.
The luncheon is open to the public at $60 per person; reservations can be made by calling (602) 240- 2408 or registering online at www.valleyforward.org.
“There is a lot of discussion and confusion about climate change issues, regulatory impacts and carbon emissions,” said Diane Brossart, president of Valley Forward. “It’s one of the more controversial environmental concerns and we’re pleased to facilitate education on the topic, with the ultimate goal of gaining insight into what climate change uncertainties mean for businesses in the Valley.”
Policymakers are confronted with a wide range of recommendations about how to address potential risks posed by a changing climate—in particular, whether, how, and how much to limit emissions of greenhouse gases. Gov. Jan Brewer recently implemented a change in Arizona’s policy on this issue, eliminating the state’s participation in an attempt to limit greenhouse gases across the West.
Valley Forward is a 41-year-old, non-profit public interest organization that brings business and civic leaders together to convene thoughtful public dialogue on regional issues and to promote cooperative efforts to improve the sustainability and livability of Valley.
