Situation
- Friends of the West Valley Recreation Corridor was seeking to elevate awareness of the group and its cause by increasing outreach to the West Valley business community, city and county government, possible sponsors, the general public and its own board of directors
- 10 year strong cause initiated by well-known developer and community advocate
- Existing board of directors consisting of 25 members representing various high profile public and private entities throughout Maricopa County
Goals
- Hire an executive director capable of understanding the multi-faceted challenges and opportunities facing the organization
- Develop comprehensive and effective communication pieces
- Obtain publicity for major announcements
- Plan community focused events
- Assist with fundraising efforts
Outcome
- Highly regarded former City of Phoenix lobbyist sought out and hired as executive director
- Ongoing media coverage including front page article in Arizona Capitol Times
- Annual events drew more than 200 attendees from West Valley communities
- Meetings conducted with all cities affected by the project with two cities signing on to support the cause
- Three corporate sponsors pledged ongoing financial support
